OPEN FOR BUSINESS
Geodetic Designs Inc. opens for business in the basement of Gil’s house. Major projects for the first year include several municipal and governmental contracts along with residential surveys including a project to mark parcel lines for a fence in exchange for a live pig and a cow. Major corporate decisions are based on the outcome of Xbox “Halo” competitions.
THE BIG MOVE
The company moves its base of operations to the north side of Lansing, Michigan. Investments in new surveying technology, vehicles, and software increase productivity and capacity. Projects include construction staking for big-box stores, commercial ALTA/ACSM surveys, and a number of condominium subdivisions. Additional licenses to practice in states outside of Michigan are acquired. Major corporate decisions still based on Xbox competitions.
THINGS GET SERIOUS
The collapse of the housing market due to subprime mortgage lending grinds residential development to a halt. Geodetic Designs continues to grow by focusing on government, municipal, environmental, railroad, and commercial ALTA/ACSM surveys. Reinvestments in technology and brain power lead to large route surveying projects for the Michigan Department of Transportation and numerous commercial financing survey portfolios. Xbox no longer the platform of choice for major corporate decisions.
GROWTH SPURT
The company purchases the facility and records of Fred White Engineering in Lansing, Michigan. The office location is moved to a new, larger facility to accommodate growth. The company doubles in size to account for an increase in projects and workload. The company continues to gain licensure for professional surveying and business registration in multiple states to facilitate one-stop shopping for surveying projects around the country.
POSITIONED PERFECTLY
The company continues to grow and expand its reach into multiple states. Commercial ALTA/NSPS survey portfolios that contain multiple facilities worth hundreds of millions of dollars are common projects. Continued focus on municipal and governmental (MDOT, HUD, and NRCS) projects along with environmental, railroad, condominiums, site development surveys, FEMA, and structural mapping with scanners provide ample opportunities for growth. Geodetic Designs is well positioned to leverage any surveying opportunity and deliver an exceptional outcome for any client.
